As the iPhone 5S makes its way into customers' hands new details about connectivity with AppRadio Mode enabled devices are starting to surface. Yesterday's launch of Apple's latest and greatest smartphone is already being called a very successful launch but early adopters who have AppRadio 3 in their car have started complaining about compatibility issues already.
Although we would like to confirm this from more users, it seems as though the iPhone 5S running iOS 7 is incompatible with the AppRadio 3. One particular user, "JC", has informed us that after connecting his iPhone 5S to the AppRadio 3 nothing seems to work apart from Bluetooth functions. Even after installing the latest AppRadio app update, he hasn't had any success.
Here are some excerpts from our communication with JC via email over the last couple of days regarding this issue (edited for content)…
JC: Just wanted to give you some info. I got the iPhone 5S (32GB) today and it's not working with the AppRadio 3. Hopefully there's a fix in the near future.
ARW: Can you elaborate please. Did you have an iPhone 5 before and did it work? I think our readers will be interested in knowing more.
JC: Yes I had the iPhone 5 and it was jailbroken. Currently the iPhone 5S does nothing other than Bluetooth functions. Tried rebooting the iPhone 5S and I get nothing to work.
ARW: I'm trying to get more info on this issue from Pioneer directly. Let's see what I can find out. So you're saying AppRadio Mode doesn't work? Does the Apps icon light up? Try unplugging the cables at the back of the AppRadio 3 and replugging them. I remember when I upgraded to the iPhone 5 from the 4S I had to do this and it worked. The iPhone 5 works fine with iOS 7. If the 5S and/or 5C has issues it will be interesting to see what Pioneer comes up with.
JC: My phone just updated to a newer version of the AppRadio app. I'm going to try and see if it will work now. Right now the app icon on the AppRadio does light up but when I click it the AppRadio app just sits on the screen and won't go into AppRadio mode. I haven't tried pulling the cord out of the back and honestly I am not sure how I can. I had my radio installed and getting to it is difficult in my SUV. Hopefully that's not the fix. The iPhone 5 still works fine when hooked up but the 5S just won't go into AppRadio mode. Going to give it another try in 30 min. Will keep you posted.
ARW: The AppRadio app update was out about 3 or 4 days ago with bug fixes. Maybe it's a fix for the iPhone 5S. Let me know if it works now.
JC: Tried it and for some reason my phone didn't download the update when I set it up. I got the update installed now and the AppRadio says "Failed to Connect". I retried and that's all I get. Hopefully this gets resolved soon.
Well, we couldn't agree with JC any more. This issue definitely needs to be fixed by Pioneer. I'm guessing there will be a firmware update soon which will fix this issue. Hopefully this issue getting resolved is a firmware fix away.
If any of you have purchased an iPhone 5S or iPhone 5C for that matter, please let us know whether you have any success connecting to the AppRadio 3 or any other AppRadio Mode enabled device. We would love to hear from you and get this issue into the spotlight. Leave a comment below or tweet us @AppRadioWorld.
Guess I'll be returning the iPhone 5s I have in transit to me.. Not having appradio is a deal breaker. Stuff like this makes me wish I installed a stand alone HU.
ReplyDeleteThis is just one person so I wouldn't consider this a platform problem until more people report the same.
ReplyDeleteLies I have a appradio 3 and iphone 5s it works perfect
ReplyDeleteAppradio sucks, pioneer blew it.
DeleteI hope it turn out what the above poster says is true. Perhaps the person saying it doesn't work needs to reinstall the app or is just being mellitus for entertainment. I kind of feel like that girl in the commercial that says everything on the internet is true where she walks off with a guy who says he's a french model with a smirk on his face. I need to wake up and believe none of what I hear and half of what I see!
ReplyDeleteI'll have my new 64GB space grey iPhone 5S tomorrow (Monday) and will let you know how it works with my AppRadio 3
ReplyDeleteBeen reported now that it works just fine.
ReplyDeleteCan someone post a video showing a 5s working with the appradio 3? That would put this issue to rest.
ReplyDeleteMy iphone 5s works perfectly with Appradio 3, but as i have it installed in a passat with electric handbrake it will not play video even with handbrake turned on, any ideas or solutions please
ReplyDeleteget a by-pass switch. works great for me. all you do is flick the switch on and off once and acts like your handbrake
DeleteI had my AR3 installed professionally and my iPhone 5 will not connect. watch dozens of videos and read many websites and I do everything by the book and still, the damn iPhone will not light up the app icon on my DA-210. I brought the car back to the installer and he tried my phone on it and nothing. he tried his iPhone and it works. I reformatted my phone and updated it to the same 7.0 has he has and it still wont work. not sure if its my iPhone is dicking me around or something else is going on? frustrated!!!! :(
ReplyDeleteare you sure that a jailbroken iPhone 5s would be the problem to it not working? i don't want to restore it if i don't have to. at this moment my 5s won't work on the app radio 3
ReplyDeleteAre you sure that it won't work on a jailbroken iPhone 5s? i don't want to restore it if i don't have to.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter recently upgraded from iPhone 4s to the 5s. She has the SPH-DA02 (I believe its first gen). Is there any adapter we can buy or any way to use her phone with this App Radio? Please tell me after just 2 years, I don't have to buy a new App Radio for her!!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, you will have to get her a new AppRadio or NEX Receiver. The iPhone 5S is not compatible with the first generation AppRadio.
