Latest AppRadio App Update Allows Custom Backgrounds [Video]

Pioneer's own AppRadio app has been updated to version 1.8.1 (iOS). This update includes one feature that was perhaps missed the most (apart from the glitch fixes). The app now allows you to use your own custom background on the AppRadio. Previously this couldn't be done directly from the device.

iPhone 5 Compatibility With AppRadio Remains Questionable

If you were lucky enough to preorder the new iPhone 5 on September 14 you will most likely have it delivered to your doorstep tomorrow. The biggest difference for me with Apple's latest device over the previous generations is the change in connectors. The flagship 30-pin connection port is gone and has made way to the new 9-pin Lightning port. This means that the plethora of third-party devices with 30-pin connections won't necessarily work with the iPhone 5.

Here Are Some Screenshots Of INRIX Traffic On AppRadio 2

INRIX Traffic was updated to version 4.1 about two weeks ago. This AppRadio compatible app works great with AppRadio now. I've been using it on and off. I especially like the ETA info that self-updates based on traffic info. The free version of the app only allows you to save one home and one work location. For additional locations you have to upgrade to the premium version.

As promised here are a few screenshots of the app interface on AppRadio 2.

Meet iCoyote, The AppRadio Compatible App For Europe Only [Video]

Maybe one of our readers in France can tell us more about this story. I came across a video on YouTube from "MrBuzz118" which showcases iCoyote, an iOS app for the iPhone. The app is AppRadio compatible (both SPH-DA01 and SPH-DA100) and from the looks of it seems pretty useful. It is not available in the United States or Canada but is meant for Europe only. My knowledge of French is limited but here's the video and what I think this app might be capable of doing.

Here's A Better Video Of An XBox 360 And AppRadio 2 In Action [Video]

One of our readers with the YouTube channel "Bdowling91" has posted another video showing his XBox 360 connected to his AppRadio 2. The video is a little more informative. User Video Shows An XBox 360 Connected To An AppRadio 2 [Video]

If you have a piece of hardware that uses an HDMI connection to display to an external monitor, chances are it will work with AppRadio 2. I can think of a handful of devices that can be used this way in the car ranging from media players to gaming consoles to laptops. The only issue, however, would be to get a power source to power up some of these devices. Well, one YouTube user (n0name321) recently connected his Microsoft XBox 360 to his AppRadio 2 to demonstrate how the AppRadio 2 can be used as a display monitor. Check it out.

How To: Determine Your AppRadio's Model Number

I've been getting quite a few questions about how to find out the exact model number of the AppRadio. Pioneer's recent firmware updates for the first generation AppRadio have caused a little confusion since two separate updates for SPH-DA01 and SPH-DA02 were released. So if you have a first generation AppRadio you can find your model number right on your device. It's probably easy to miss though.

AppRadio Receives Two Separate Updates (SPH-DA01 & SPH-DA02)

The first generation AppRadio was introduced almost a year ago with the model number SPH-DA01. And then another model number was added earlier this year (SPH-DA02). It was long believed that there was no hardware difference between the two. Today, however, there are two different updates available for each model number. Version 2.56 for SPH-DA01 and version 4.14 for SPH-DA02. The two updates have a couple of differences.

Do We Really Need An AppRadio App?

The latest AppRadio app update seems to have done more harm than good to the AppRadio (or AppRadio 2) experience. There are a lot of issues that have been reported across the web. Most have been fixed by deleting the app from the iPhone and reinstalling it. But the major issues of automatic launch and pop up messages haven't been fixed. Made me wonder, do we really need an AppRadio app?

iPhone Error - Accessory Not Supported

There are plenty of issues that plague both the AppRadio and AppRadio 2 at the moment. Although some have been fixed by software updates, others have been worsened or new ones have cropped up. Yesterday I encountered something I haven't seen before while using my AppRadio 2. I have seen this error while using my iPhone with other devices but this is the first time I've seen it with AppRadio/AppRadio 2.

AppRadio App Updated But What's New?

New DashCommand Update Adds Auto-Connect Feature

If you want pretty gauges and technical information about your car's performance on your dashboard, DashCommand may be the app for you. It is AppRadio compatible and works well with the in-dash receiver. The iOS app has been updated to version 3.0.0 today with quite a few new features and improvements. The app uses your car's OBD-II port to pull data.
