Apple has, however, put out a Lightning to 30-pin adapter which will bridge that gap. But there is still doubt on whether devices that use advanced functionality like the AppRadio will be able to pull the necessary connections through the adapter. Rumors suggest that through the adapter you will only be able to push through charging and iPod functions (Audio). Then there are suggestions in certain reports that all functions will be pushed through. All these rumors will be put to rest only after tomorrow.
The adapter won't be included with your new iPhone 5. It will be a separate purchase costing $29 from Apple.
For more on this read the following post at Cult of Mac. Click here. From that report looks like the iPhone 5 won't be fully functional with the AppRadio because the AppRadio requires full functionality push through. The signals have to be analog and the new Lightning connector is digital. Although Apple has suggested these signals get converted in the adapter, doubts remain.
More on this soon. Stay tuned!

I have ordered the adapter as well, I really hope this phone works with my appradio or I will be disappointed.
ReplyDeleteSo no ipod control of the iPhone 5 on the AppRadio itself through the adapter?
DeleteIf that doesn't work, no point in me picking one up.
Thanks.
Doesn't work at ALL...sucks. I'm going to have to buy a hotspot to tether my iPhone 4 on...
ReplyDeletewhy not tether from iphone 5
Deleteany word from pioneer when a new cable will be available? should already be on the shelf. pioneer states at there facebook pages:
ReplyDelete''Hello everyone with questions regarding the iPhone 5 and iOS 6 announcements yesterday.
At this time, we are working to evaluate the compatibility with our car, home and DJ products. Unfortunately, we do not have any information to share at this time, but we will post information here and on our website as soon as possible.
Thank you.''
and yesterday:
''Pioneer is currently finalizing iOS6 compatibility for our AppRadio App while also working with our App partners to update AppRadio compatible applications to iOS6 compatibility. This will take some time. Until this is done we would recommend to keep using iOS5 on your iPhone, in order to ensure an optimal experience on your AppRadio.''
no new on iphone 5 support...
Confirming that iPhone 5 + AppRadio doesn't work at all. The problem is that the new phones don't support analog video, and the AppRadio must be checking for this when when the phone is first plugged in. If they remove this check, we might at least be able to get the music to play ... not sure if the app display is affected by this.
ReplyDeleteIts a good idea to go for internet radio apps so that you can listen to your favorite radio station through online. as all the radio stations are been streaming through online as well, which will allow you to listen radio online instead of looking for new hardware that will allow you to listen to radio.
ReplyDeleteI want a iPhone 5 airplay (with audio + video) appradio :(
ReplyDeleteI second that request, I would buy one immediately.
Delete...And another reason to hate this piece of garbage AppRadio. This thing sucked with my Evo 3D Android phone so I restored to lugging my iPad around and using the wireless tether from Android. Due to the fact that the iPad worked so well with the AppRadio 2, I figured it makes sense to get an iPhone. Now I have an iPhone and I'm SOL. This AppRadio 2 is positively worthless in nearly every regard unless you have an iOS device with a dock connector. The radio even sucks and it has no CD slot. I didn't think that I'd care about CDs, but I'm now riding around listening to staticy radio stations. Worst purchase ever.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone actually tried using the iPod player or Car Media Player with an iPhone 5 and the Apple adapter? Just looking for confirmation if the AppRadio can still be used to select playlists, advance to the next song, etc.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone confirm this one way or the other?

I received my adapter yesterday and tried it with my SPH-DA01. Only charging worked. I could not play music or perform any other functions.
ReplyDeleteSame here. SPHDA01 and Iphone5. Only charging.
DeleteI just received my adapter. and with the latest app i can tell you that everything works except video out. so music works and steering controls work as well so pioneer doesn't use ipod control or already found a way to override it. however there is still nothing official released from pioneer or apple about the video out cables.
ReplyDeleteare you referring to appRadio or appRadio 2? Thanks.
DeleteI have the appradio 2. Got the adapter today and music will play from the appradio home screen ipod app, but it won't show what song is playing after the first song. Skip and pause controls work, shuffle and repeat do not.
ReplyDeleteLaunching the app radio app on the phone, it tries to connect but just gets a blank screen. The advanced app mode must have relied on the video output function.
Pandora works for playing and displaying at least the first song, but none of the like/dislike or skip buttons or station select work.
Basically, if you want to use your iphone 5, you're out of luck until pioneer comes out with a new way to connect.
I bought an app radio but had to take it back because of the compatibility issues with the iphone 5. I couldnt hang around to try the new lightning adapter because the time i had to wait for it overided the purchase return time of the radio. I have heard it has enabled more functions but it is still not fully functional. I spoke to pioneer and asked them what was happening. They told me to basicly wait till next year when they will release a new app radio that is designed around the iphone 5 which implies to me that there will not be a modified cable. You pay good money for these app radios, so if they dont fully work with all the functions then dont buy. Its a no brainer to me!
ReplyDeleteAppradio 2 & iPhone 5 with adapter I have the iPod, and pandora functions working. Steering wheel controls too. No advanced app mode. None. At least the iPod app plays my music (and videos).
ReplyDeleteNot sure if everyone is keeping up with Pioneer's Facebook but.....

For what its worth.......
ReplyDeleteI tried my iPhone 5 yesterday with the 30-pin to Lightning adapter on my AppRadio. Nothing. Zip. Zero. Nada. It will only charge the iPhone 5. Won't even allow Bluetooth connection on the phone.
I am utterly disappointed.
Got the new iPhone 5 and also paid £30 for the original adapter from apple and bugger all works. Totally p'd off!
ReplyDeleteAnybody try this http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD826ZM/A/lightning-digital-av-adapter . In theory it should just mirror the phone via HDMI at the very least
ReplyDeleteFor those that can't use Bluetooth with their 5 and original AppRadio, upgrade your AppRadio firmware to 2.63. It includes a specific flash for the Bluetooth stack. After doing so, I was able to pair the phone with ease. Before, at 2.45, I could see the AppRadio from the phone but when I put the pair code in (despite resetting it to a known value) it would fail to pair every time. Hope this helps.
ReplyDeletehow about if I get a cheap ipod touch 4gen... only like $100 or so used. use that to hook up to the Appradio. Use my iPhone5 as the wireless hotspot and just use the ipod touch to do whatever else with the Appradio. However, I wonder if i can at the same time bluetooth the iphone5 to the appradio so i can use hands free calling..
ReplyDeleteanyone got an update on whats going on with the connection issues???
ReplyDeleteUpdated at the end of February expected. Read on pioneer website
ReplyDeleteI'm considering getting a class action lawsuit going on this. I paid almost $1,000 to purchase and install the AppRadio in my truck...and all I really have is a radio and handsfree phone...Not what I bargained for and CarToys may be just as guilty in my eyes because I totally asked them if the iPhone 5 would be a problem and they told me not to worry about it...
ReplyDeleteRIGHT there with you pal. :: thumbs up ::
DeleteJust heard from pioneer support. There is no plan to support iPhone5 on SPH-DA01. Sucks. Big disapointment.
ReplyDeleteI want a iPhone 5 airplay (with audio + video) :(
ReplyDeleteIs this really serious? Pioneer is still selling the "app radio" and it doesnt support the iphone 5?! I have the SPH-DA01 in my camper van and now (after the winter) am trying to connect it to my iphone 5.. Would need to sell it though.. (and put bad reviews about Pioneer to all websites i can find..)
ReplyDeleteJust got my iphone 5 and should have checked this forum before - had no problem with 4s with SPH-DA01 for a year, but now.....despite app update no MUSIC (only charge and phone)!! WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS UNIT!!! Goodbye Pioneer I now need to change my head unit...MANY THANKS!!! DO NOT BUY THIS HEAP OF S IF YOU HAVE AN IPHONE 5!!
ReplyDeleteWas so frustrating at the beginning when i change my I phone 4 to 5, I was looking at all the cables and still had no compatibility because my AP radio did not had the digital video input, just to all that desperate like me, that want to connect to your AP radio, just enable your hotspot from your I phone 5 and send WiFi signal to your old phone, and permanently have your i phone 4 or iPod touch connected to your radio.
