How To Detach The Faceplate On Your Pioneer AVH-4100NEX [How-To]

Pioneer's entry level Android Auto and Apple CarPlay head unit, AVH-4100NEX, is the best option available at the moment, in my opinion. The device is priced very well, better than the competition, and has robust features that will make the car you own a pleasure to drive, all over again.

The AVH-4100NEX is packed with features, including a couple of very nice anti-theft features that will help keep your device safe. One of those features is the ability to password-protect the head unit. The other feature is the removable faceplate, which you can keep in a safe place when not in use.

Detaching the faceplate on the AVH-4100NEX is easy.

Pioneer NEX Custom ROMs Could Bring Android Auto To Older Head Units

While Apple CarPlay and Google's Android Auto are relatively closed systems, it doesn't stop developers from looking for hacks. The two softwares run off of respective smartphones but there is a platform that runs natively on dashboard head units which has had the potential for some tweaking.

I am talking about Pioneer NEX.

Developers have had some success exploring the possibility of running custom ROMs on first generation NEX head units over the last two months. They have, so far, managed to boot software directly from the SD card slot on these NEX head units.

Here are some more details.

Anytime you hear people ending up at the wrong destination because of hiccups in their mapping app, it's never good news. Tragedy struck a couple in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this week, when they errantly ended up in the city's most notorious favela, or slum area. They were using Waze to get directions.

Why Android Auto Should Go The Icon Route And Do Away With App Lists [Opinion]

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are quite similar in what they are designed to do but still have plenty of differences. Google's software uses 'Cards' to display information, for example. Cards pop up when relevant information becomes available.

But Cards are not the problem. The issue I have with Android Auto is with lists. Especially with how third-party apps are listed. Let me explain.
