Another Android Update, Another Round Of Waiting [Update Availability List]


Google released Android 6.0 Marshmallow yesterday and, as it happens with every OS update, the roll out process will depend on your smartphone manufacturer and/or carrier. Android users are familiar with the waiting game and this time it is likely to be the same.

The first devices to get the Marshmallow update will be Google's Nexus smartphones and tablets. But what about the others? This is what we know so far...

Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update Availability

1. Google Nexus 7 and Nexus 9: Update Available - These are the first Nexus devices to get over-the-air Marshmallow updates. You can also get the update from Google's website.

2. Google Nexus 5 and Nexus 6: Update Available - You can download the update directly from Google. Over-the-air updates were not available at the time of this post.

3. T-Mobile: Updates AnnouncedT-Mobile has released a note on their website explaining the Marshmallow update process. According to the note the following devices are currently preparing to deliver an update along with Nexus devices...


T-Mobile says the update roll out will happen in three stages. Currently, most smartphones listed above are in the "Manufacturer Development" stage or Stage 1. Stage 2 is "T-Mobile Testing" while Stage 3 is the final stage when the update testing is completed and gets released.

4. Other devices: Other manufacturers and carriers will be announcing plans on the Marshmallow update in the coming days. Check back for the latest details on that.

Note on Android Auto and Marshmallow: I am still waiting for the over-the-air update for my Nexus 5 to begin testing Marshmallow with Android Auto. Hopefully the update will become available in the next few hours.
