Pioneer Bringing Spotify Integration To Dashboard Head Units

Spotify is one of the popular music streaming services available at the moment. The service is available on various platforms like iOS, Android, Chromecast and also as a web player for your computer.

Using its smartphone integration technology, Pioneer Electronics is now bringing Spotify to your car's dashboard via one of their 2016 DVD receivers. This is different from CarPlay and Android Auto, which also integrates Spotify.

Here are some extra details.

Starting November, Pioneer will start selling its newly announced 2016 line of DVD receivers. Seven of the nine receivers announced will include Spotify integration. The DVD receivers do not include Apple CarPlay or Android Auto so Spotify connectivity makes for a great extra option for streaming music to go with Pandora Radio.

Spotify will be available on these head units...

How it works

You will need either an iPhone or compatible Android device running the latest Spotify app connected to the head unit. On Android, Spotify will work via USB whereas on the iPhone, you can use either USB or Bluetooth.

From the head unit users will be able to play, pause and skip tracks. In addition to this, browsing playlists, albums and radio stations will also be possible directly from the head unit.

Setting up Spotify on a Pioneer DVD Receiver

To setup Spotify on a compatible Pioneer receiver, confirm that Spotify is turned on in the AV Source Settings on the receiver. This option will be turned on when a compatible iPhone or Android device is connected via USB. The option will also be turned on if an iPhone is connected via Bluetooth.

A Spotify shortcut is available among the AV sources on the receiver's home screen.

Spotify Subscription

Although you can listen to Spotify for free by signing up for an account, the service also offers a Spotify Premium option. The Premium service includes features like Shuffle Play, ad-free listening, unlimited skips, high quality audio and offline listening. The free service only includes Shuffle Play.

Spotify Premium will cost you $9.99 per month for an individual plan. Family plans and student discounts are also available. Spotify also offers a 30-day free trial for new users. Visit their website for more details.
