Apple CarPlay To Make Its OEM Debut In India Via The Maruti Suzuki Baleno
Apple makes its presence felt in almost every country across the world via the iPhone. But all the fancy iOS features are not always available in each country. CarPlay is one of them.
Until now, CarPlay was not available as an OEM feature in India, for example. But that's about to change in a few days. Japanese automaker Suzuki along with India's own Maruti, together called Maruti Suzuki, will include CarPlay in its upcoming Baleno, which is scheduled for launch on October 26.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno will feature a large 7-inch LCD display in the dashboard and offer CarPlay along with some other dashboard tech. There is a backup camera, built-in satellite navigation system, Siri Eyes Free, and a 4.2-inch color display in the instrument panel.
Baleno is a hatchback designed to take on the Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo in India's car market. Maruti Suzuki has long been the leading automaker in India but increased introduction of imports over the last few years has widened the playing field.
Maruti Suzuki will also offer the Baleno with a Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) option for the first time in India.
No Apple Maps in India
If you head over to Apple's website, it shows India as one of the 29 countries where CarPlay is available as an iOS feature. But, a footnote says "Maps unavailable in CarPlay" for India and three other countries - Brazil, Thailand, and Turkey.
In any case, Google Maps rules in countries like India. CarPlay users, however, will have to do without any mapping application because Apple is still to allow third-party mapping apps.
