Pangu Releases iOS 9 Untethered Jailbreak, Get Cracking! [Jailbreak]

When it comes to iOS jailbreaks these days, there are two major teams in the race to release a viable version - Pangu and TaiG. With iOS 9 being released just about two weeks ago, everyone's been waiting for a jailbreak since, including myself.

This time it's the Pangu team that has won the race to a successful untethered jailbreak for iOS 9. The last known untethered jailbreak was available for iOS 8.3 and was released by TaiG.

Here are the latest details about Pangu 9 for iOS 9 to iOS 9.0.2.

Disclaimer: Use caution, as always, when jailbreaking your iDevice. Jailbreaking runs the risk of rendering your device unusable or bricking. Proceed at your own risk.

Before jailbreaking, it is advisable to create a complete backup of your device via iTunes on your computer. iCloud backups can also be performed but in my experience, restoring your device from an iCloud backup takes ages. An iTunes restore is always faster.

You will need the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer. Make sure you have iOS 9, iOS 9.0.1 or iOS 9.0.2 on your iDevice before proceeding. This jailbreak will only work for these firmwares.

Pangu also advises the following steps before jailbreaking: Turn off 'Find My iPhone/iPad/iPod,' turn off 'Passcode Lock', and switch the device to 'Airplane Mode' for a better success rate at jailbreaking. Some tech blogs advise installing a fresh version of iOS 9/9.0.1/9.0.2 before jailbreaking using the IPSW links from Apple.

Why Jailbreak?

Jailbreaking your device opens up the possibility of installing some really nice tweaks. In the past, tweaks like AppEx for AppRadio Mode have improved the dashboard experience for those using compatible Pioneer head units.

Currently, there is a really nice tweak called Ignition which allows you to run Apple CarPlay directly on your iDevice - no compatible car or head unit required! The tweak will probably have to be updated for iOS 9 to work but it worked really well in the previous jailbreak.

So get cracking!
