Like Chevrolet, GMC Will Offer Android Auto Software Update For 2016 IntelliLink Systems


GMC will offer software updates for select 2016 car models which will enable Android Auto capability in 8-inch IntelliLink systems. The announcement comes along with Chevrolet's plans for Android Auto updates for its 2016 vehicles.

Here are some more details and which vehicles will get the update...

Android Auto Software Update For GMC IntelliLink Vehicles

- Software update will be available starting March 2016
- Upgrade will be done by GMC dealers
- Vehicles: 2016 GMC Canyon, Sierra and Yukon
- Only vehicles equipped with the 8-inch IntelliLink system will get the update
- Compatible Android smartphone required


Duncan Aldred, vice president of Buick and GMC Sales and Marketing in the United States said, "GMC IntelliLink is taking another step forward with this simple and intuitive functionality that makes phones and vehicles work better together... Providing Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility ushers a new era of staying connected in a convenient manner."

With Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, users can run smartphone apps in their vehicles' dashboard in a safe manner. The software update will require customers to bring their vehicles to the dealer. No specific timeline for each vehicle on the software update rollout was given.

Other features available in 2016 GMC vehicles include OnStar and 4G LTE connectivity, Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free, Pandora, Rear Vision Camera along with the IntelliLink system (Note: All features may not be available as standard).
