The cheapest of the five receivers, AVH-X1600DVD (pictured above), priced at $300, will only be compatible with the iPhone 4 and 4S and will need the CD-IU201S cable kit. This is similar to what the first generation AppRadio (SPH-DA01 & SPH-DA02) offers. No Lightning connector compatibility.
The 30-pin connector kit for the iPhone 4/4S works great for AppRadio Mode though. In fact, direct iPod control is possible when this kit is used. When using Lightning connection, the app CarMediaPlayer (or similar) needs to be used to access the music stored on your phone. The iPod icons on the AppRadio 2 and AppRadio 3 are greyed-out when using an iPhone 5.
The AVH-X1600DVD, like other DVD receivers, will be compatible with Pioneer's AVIC-U250 add-on system. This hideaway piece of hardware allows your to switch to navigation mode with the touch of a button. It gives the receiver an 'AppRadio independent' built-in navigation mode. The AVIC-U250 is priced at $400 itself.
