iOS 7.1.1 Has Been Jailbroken But Isn't Ready For Release [Jailbreak]

The latest version of iOS, version 7.1.1, has been jailbroken by developers winocm and i0n1c. However, the untethered jailbreak isn't ready for primetime just quite yet.

The last known working untethered jailbreak for iOS, evasi0n7, was available for iOS 7.0.X. With iOS 7.1, the jailbreak vulnerability was patched by Apple. But the news of a possible jailbreak for the new version is definitely good for various reasons.

According to the developers, iOS 7.1.1 has quite a few vulnerabilities that can be used to develop a jailbreak. Developer winocm had demoed a jailbreak for iOS 7.1 sometime back but it never made it to users. The announcement this time could be an extension of that jailbreak.

The two developers, winocm and i0n1c have announced the latest jailbreak news separately. Winocm said this about the jailbreak and posted the following video (Source: rmsiphone - YouTube) of a jailbroken iPhone 4 running iOS 7.1.1...
Oh yeah, this is iOS 7.1.1 untethered if you didn't notice earlier. (iPhone 4 GSM though, don't want to mess with any other devices that I have. Would work elsewhere... if you put in the effort. ã‚¸)

Developer i0n1c, on the other hand, posted this picture of a jailbroken iPhone 5C running iOS 7.1.1...

Here's why neither of these exploits may lead to a downloadable version of the jailbreak. Apple has announced WWDC 14 to be scheduled on June 2 this year. That date is now less than two weeks away. It is rumored that they are ready to announce iOS 8 at the event along side new devices.

Putting out a jailbreak for iOS 7.1.1 would only mean giving Apple the chance to patch the exploit in iOS 8. Instead, developers are more likely to hold on to their horses until iOS 8 drops sometime this Fall.

All in all it's good news for the jailbreak community though. AppRadio users always look forward to jailbreak news as AppEx is a jailbreak tweak for their device which is highly sought after. Unfortunately, AppEx development continues to be a work in progress.

On the downside, developer winocm has reportedly accepted an internship with Apple which he will start sometime this year. This will definitely mean the end of his involvement with the jailbreak community as we know it.

Stay tuned for more.
