AppRadio Extensions or AppEx is a jailbreak tweak for iOS which enhances AppRadio functionality. Thanks to the endless efforts of its developer, Mike DeCaro, the latest beta version of the tweak has been made compatible with the iPhone 5 running iOS 6. You can now fully control your iPhone through your AppRadio 2's touchscreen. Here are some initial thoughts.
I installed the latest beta of AppEx version 2.0.1-350 and the best feature is disabling the launch warning which appears on clicking 'Apps' in my AppRadio 2. Without the warning the AppRadio app launches right away and you're already in AppRadio Mode. Also, you can add any app to the AppRadio menu within the app. Doing this helps launching these apps from within the AppRadio menu.
There's now a new 'Home' icon among the app icons in AppRadio mode which, when clicked, takes you back to your iPhone's homescreen. And voila! Full touch control with mirroring of the iPhone from the AppRadio 2. This is what ARLiberator does for Android phones but costs $40. AppEx is a free download but I encourage everyone to donate to Mike DeCaro's tireless work.

ReplyDeleteWill the jailbreak work on the AppRadio 3 also? Are there any advantages between 2 and 3 other than the upgraded visual look? I'm looking to get an app based head unit and have heard contradicting things about this one. Are there better option out there without breaking the bank?
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if it will work with the AppRadio 3 as well? About to try it soon
ReplyDeleteI just bought the 3. Will let you guys know it works Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteCan someone please post a video of this to youtube. Thanks
ReplyDeleteNo it's not working with AppRadio 3. The developer needs support he don't have appradio 3 so download the extension and send him videos of what it does so he can fix it. Send Mike a email to Mike DeCaro cydia@mikedecaro.com. The more help he get's the faster we can get this working for AppRadio 3 and don't forget to donate.
ReplyDeleteCommunication is the only way will get this working so send in your feed back.
Thats a bummer. I'm gonna donate anyway, since this is such a sweet project. I'll send him all the info too. Getting my 3 tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteSomeone should send him an appradio 3.
ReplyDeleteJust sayin...
Anyone have AppRadio 3 yet? Please let us know it works.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been able to get it to work I posted a video for Mike to see and here's what happens

I have been able to get it to work fine I believe. I'm not sure if I'm getting the full functionality. I do not get a landscape home screen like in the above picture. I am able to fully operate the phone from the head unit.
ReplyDeleteI'll try and post a video in the next few days.
ReplyDeleteWhat settings do you have active maybe one of the extensions settings is conflicting ?
ReplyDeleteAlso what IOS jailbreak firmware do you have and phone?
ReplyDeleteI did notice we are on different phones. I am using an iPhone 5, I'm running 6.1.2. and the appextension version is 2.01-350. The other cydia packages I have installed are: 3gunrestrictor, substrate, substrate safe mode, sbsettings, sbsettingstoggles, my 6, mywiondemand, iditdahtext, evasion jailbreak, appradio extensions, activator, app list.
ReplyDeleteI've used it with everything turned on, and everything turned off. There isnt an option in the app radio extensions menu, that I've had any trouble wiht, or that I havent turned on at some point. Again, I've never used this with an appradio 2, so I'm not sure if there is functionality that I dont know I'm missing. I am able to interact with unsupported apps, and to navigate the springboard etc from the head unit. Hope this helps.
What do you think of its performance? Does it seem to meet the hype? Does it open and operate the apps quickly. What is your overall review? Also, did you install it yourself?
DeleteI finally got it to work with Appradio 3 I had the wrong beta "FACE PALM" It works but the phone get's super hot and some apps like Radarscope I can't get to respond well with touch
ReplyDeleteI would agree. Phone gets really hot (most surely taxing the gpu, and quite possibly due to some bugs in the software). I don't love it. Its neat, but it isn't handy enough to make it worth using it regularly. It would be awful nice if the damn thing would go back into the mode it was in when you turned the car off. It sure is a pain to have to mess with the phone and the radio for 10-15 seconds every time I get in the car. It makes me miss my cd collection, which would start right where it stopped. Oh well. Pioneer could make it alot cooler without Apple's stupid restrictions. Maybe in ios 7 they'll be able to do more.
ReplyDeleteHello Admin-
ReplyDeleteWas just reading through your messages here and like what i am hearing. I am actually looking to purchase a pioneer car stereo this week. I've been debating between the AVIC-Z150 or AVH-8500bhs. Do you know if i can use my iphone 5 as a jailbroken phone for either of these car stereo's? I haven't jailbroken my phone yet and haven't researched how to yet but will if i know i can use it with either of these stereo's.
Any info on any of this will be very helpful to me.
Thank you for your time,
Chris
Now you can jailbreake IOS6.1.4 vil it so work whit the iphone 5 now its jailbreaket
ReplyDeleteNow there is a jailbreak for ios 6.1.4 i am going to get either the sph-da100 or avh-x2500bt, will apradio extensions work on both of the units?
ReplyDeletewhat is the jailbreak for 6.1.4
DeleteIs this one of those "You need a brake bypass" thing that you need to fully enjoy? I don't want to jailbreak my phone just to find that out.
ReplyDeleteHi there, has there been any updates for AppEx to work with IOS7?
