I guess you could say this was only a matter of time. In an attempt to inject new life into its own AppRadio Mode, Pioneer Electronics has announced "AppRadio One" for its newest line of head units.
The distinguishing feature of AppRadio One is that it will work with a USB lightning cable only; No more complicated cable kits and adapters. But looks like the feature will only be available in 2015 head unit models through a firmware update.
Pioneer has sent out a press release announcing AppRadio One and also the iDatalink Maestro connectivity feature for Android users. It appears that NEX, AppRadio 4 and other previous generation head units will not get the AppRadio One feature update.
Pioneer mentions only AppRadioLIVE as a compatible app. Third-party app developers may have to add AppRadio One compatibility to their apps. More details will be available soon. Here is the press release...

AppRadio One and iDatalink Maestro Compatibility Now Available with Firmware Update for Pioneer In-Dash Multimedia DVD Receiver Models
Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. introduces AppRadio One™, a new convenience feature for five 2015 2-DIN in-dash multimedia DVD receivers designed to provide users with easy access to their digital lifestyle via a one cable connection and the touchscreen of the receiver. The AppRadio One feature is available through a firmware update that also provides support for iDatalink®Maestro™ compatibility. AppRadio One is also available via a separate firmware update for the two 1-DIN DVD receiver models.
AppRadio One
AppRadio One gives users easy access and control of select smartphone applications using a one-cable solution through the Pioneer display. To make the connection, owners of iPhone® 6 Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, and iPhone 5 can use the Pioneer CD-IU52 Apple Lightning® to USB cable or the Lightning cable included with the phone, while Android™ smartphone owners can use the Pioneer CD-MU200 USB to micro USB cable or the micro USB cable that comes with the phone. Pioneer’s AppRadioLIVE app is one of the compatible AppRadio One apps, aggregating content from popular music, events, traffic, weather and news sources through an interactive user interface. AppRadioLIVE delivers fresh content from many popular apps without the need to search and open them individually.
iDatalink Maestro
All DVD receiver models can now be updated with iDatalink Maestro connectivity to make integration with OEM (original equipment) systems convenient and unobtrusive. The feature enables consumers to retain many of the original features found or tied with the stock radio, including key services such as OnStar®, Sync®, uConnect®, SiriusXM, Bluetooth® and more. With iDatalink Maestro and the DVD receivers, users can access factory features directly from the built-in touchscreen display as well as the capability to project data information onto factory installed displays.
The AppRadio One and iDataLink Maestro firmware updates for applicable 2015 DVD receiver models are now available for download at no charge on the Pioneer website-www.pioneerelectronics.com/firmware.
