A while ago, Apple updated CarPlay functionality by adding support for larger and multiple screen resolutions. But, so far we've seen most aftermarket and OEM CarPlay systems only come in screen sizes at or less than 7 inches.
There was an aftermarket system that surfaced a few months back called iCarTech VX8 that offers an 8-inch display for CarPlay. For OEM systems, CarPlay is getting the 9-inch treatment thanks to the 2016 Volvo XC90.

The Swedish carmaker demoed CarPlay in a concept vehicle having a similar 9-inch display to the XC90 at the Geneva Motor Show 2014. Seems like the integration is ready for primetime.
The 2016 Volvo XC90 will offer CarPlay on its 9-inch Sensus system. Granted, CarPlay won't use the entire 9-inch landscape, but the way the software is integrated, the display looks beautiful even with in-car system controls and the rest of Volvo's software displayed on parts of the screen.
