Apple Pushes iOS 7.1 Update, Jailbreakers Hold On

Apple's first major update to iOS since releasing iOS 7 has arrived today. iOS 7.1 is available for download to your iDevice, either over-the-air or via iTunes. This update has plenty of performance improvements, few UI tweaks and bug fixes.

Jailbreak community patrons should not update to iOS 7.1 because the Evasi0n7 tool has not been updated yet.

Full details about the update are available below.

From Apple:

iOS 7.1 (Highlights)

- CarPlay: iOS experience designed for the car. Simply connect your iPhone to a CarPlay enabled vehicle.

- Siri: Manually control when Siri listens by holding down the home button while you speak and releasing it when you're done as an alternative to letting Siri automatically notice when you stop talking.

- iTunes Radio: Added Search field above Featured Stations. Buy Albums directly from Now Playing. Subscribe to iTunes Match from the iPhone itself for ad-free listening.

- Calendar: Display events in month view. Country specific holidays.

- Accessibility: Bold fonts for keyboard, calculator and many icon glyphs. Reduce Motion option includes Weather, Messaging, and multitasking UI animations. New options to display button shapes, darken app colors, and reduce white point.

- New Camera setting to automatically enable HDR mode.

- Improved performance for iPhone 4.

- Continued user interface refinements.

The Siri update is interesting for AppRadio users. Previously, the head unit would also wait for you to finish talking in order to begin searching on your query. With the update, I wonder if you'll have to hold down the home button for the duration of your question. I will report back on that later so stay tuned.

To update your iDevice to iOS 7.1, visit the Settings menu and click on Software Update. You can also do so by connecting your iDevice to your computer and launching iTunes.

  1. iOS 7.1 includes a 'fix' for the screen resizing issue. When I get a text message, the screen now flickers once, but no longer resizes to a smaller image like it did before. Looks like the resizing issue was an Apple thing.
