How To Fix Rare CarPlay Display Issue On Pioneer NEX

A couple of firmware updates for Pioneer NEX receivers were released last month which enabled Apple CarPlay. Some users reported display issues when using CarPlay on their head units where icons and menu bars were not displayed correctly. One of our readers had sent us a few pictures too.

Here's how the issue can be fixed.

A few NEX users who may have held back from updating the firmware on their NEX receivers may encounter this display problem. To fix the issue, simply restart your iPhone. Our reader, Diego V., was the first to inform us about the issue when he updated his AVH-X8650BT (AVH-4000NEX equivalent) to firmware version 1.06.

As you can see in the pictures above, the home button bar which also displays the clock and network status is shifted to the middle part of the screen. The home button bar is normally displayed along the left side of the screen. Restarting the iPhone seems to fix the issue.

Pioneer has released another firmware version 1.08 since. Make sure you download the correct firmware version depending on the model number of your head unit before updating.

Most head unit issues are fixed by rebooting your iPhone or even resetting the head unit itself from the settings menu. Resetting the head unit means your saved settings like customized EQ presets or paired Bluetooth devices will be lost.

Having the latest iOS version installed on your iPhone is also important. CarPlay is an iOS feature and all bug fixes and feature updates are provided by Apple. Future iOS versions are expected to have improvements for CarPlay.
