AppRadio App Update Temporarily Fixes iOS 8 Crash Issues

Pioneer has provided what looks like a temporary fix to the iOS 8 compatibility issue of its AppRadio app. The iOS version of the app was updated to version 2.7.3 today. Here are details of how they've tackled the issue.

AppRadio (version 2.7.3 - App Store description)

- Keyboard disabled for iOS 8 users
- Bug fixes

The AppRadio app is needed to use AppRadio Mode on a Pioneer head unit. AppRadio Mode gives users access to over 30 third-party apps from their car's dashboard with full touch functionality.

By disabling the keyboard for iOS 8 the app no longer crashes when used. But this seems like only a temporary fix. When used in AppRadio Mode, Maps for example, requires a keyboard for typing out addresses. But the Maps app in AppRadio Mode is not very useful anyways. There are better third-party map applications like Waze.

The screen resizing issue isn't fixed with the update. But that seems like an iOS 8 issue that Apple needs to fix.

Other AppRadio Mode compatible apps are slowly getting updated to fix iOS 8 issues. We will keep you informed about those apps in coming posts.
