CONFIRMED: Latest Waze Version Works In AppRadio Mode

Months after dropping support for Pioneer AppRadio Mode, the popular GPS navigation app, Waze, is back on your car dashboard. A recently released version (4.9) added support for external displays, like a compatible Pioneer head unit.

The app for iOS was updated again to version 4.11 about two weeks back and it still works with AppRadio Mode. More details are below.

Waze (iOS) & Pioneer AppRadio Mode

Just like before, you can now use Waze in Pioneer AppRadio Mode. If you have the app installed on your iPhone you should see it on your AppRadio Mode homescreen. Click the app icon to launch. Your iPhone will ask for your permission to launch the app. Click 'Allow' and you're ready to go.

There are a few issues that still exist with AppRadio Mode though. For example, the screen resizing issue is still prevalent which makes the display shrink a little bit. I used Waze on my AppRadio 4 (SPH-DA120) running on an iPhone 6 (iOS 9.3.5) and it worked well for the most part.

Also, the app crashed once while using it in AppRadio Mode requiring a relaunch.

Overall it's great to have Waze back for use in AppRadio Mode. Pioneer's smartphone integration is still used by a lot of folks but has lost popularity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the mix. Waze is not available on either platform at the moment.

I will post some pictures of Waze in action in AppRadio Mode sometime soon. For now, get the latest version of Waze for your compatible Pioneer head unit and get Wazing!
