Android Auto Now Available For Samsung Galaxy S4 And S5 Users On Major U.S. Carriers

The Android Auto app has finally been updated to add support for the Samsung Galaxy S4 and S5. After months of waiting, users of these two devices on the three major U.S. carriers will now be able to enjoy Android Auto in their compatible vehicles/head units.

The three major U.S. carriers are Verizon, AT&T and Sprint. To use Android Auto, you need to be running Android 5.0 Lollipop or later and own a compatible aftermarket head unit that supports the software. Currently, Pioneer offers the AVH-4100NEX as the lowest priced Android Auto option along with the AVIC-7100NEX and AVIC-8100NEX.

Just last month, the Android Auto app was updated to include compatibility for Samsung's flagship Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones. The slow rollout of updates has been a big hurdle in Android Auto adoption across the board. But as of today, most of the popular Android smartphones are Android Auto capable.

Android Auto is the smart way of running Android apps in your car. Like Apple CarPlay, it puts commonly used smartphone functions in your car's dashboard while ensuring safety while driving. Some main features include navigation with Google Maps, hands-free phone and messaging, weather and traffic info, and selected third-party app compatibility.

If you are a Galaxy S4 or S5 user and want to use Android Auto, head over to Google Play and download the latest version of the Android Auto app.

  1. What are the options for those of us who bought the AVH-4000NEX. What kind of connection do we have with an Android phone? Could you please clarify that?
