Ford Will Integrate Android Auto And CarPlay In All 2017 Sync 3 Models

Just before CES 2016, Ford announced plans of bringing Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to its vehicles' dashboards. It's good news for future Ford owners and even some existing ones.

According to Ford, every 2017 model year car equipped with Sync 3, which is its latest infotainment system, will have Android Auto and CarPlay capabilities preinstalled. But what about 2016 cars with Sync 3? Worry not.

The automaker will reportedly release software updates later this year for 2016 model car owners that will enable Android Auto and CarPlay. There is no specific date/month of availability at this time.

The Sync 3 infotainment system will be at the heart of the dashboard. The system includes plenty of other connected features in addition to smartphone apps.

Sync 3 supports native apps through AppLink and with the addition of CarPlay and Android Auto users will be able to stay abreast with the latest technology these days. AppLink, which is an open source program, features apps like Glimpse, Concur and Eventseeker.

In addition to these features, Sync 3 will also bring 4G LTE connectivity to new vehicles. This will enable users to remote start their cars, unlocking of doors, checking fuel levels etc. all from their smartphone.
