New iPhone 6s And 6s Plus Now Available; First Preorders Delivered Today

September 25 is here, which means Apple's brand new iPhones have begun reaching customers in the United States and around the world this morning. Apple announced the new devices at their Fall Media Event on September 9. Preorders began September 12.

Those customers who set their alarms for 12:01 AM on September 12 and managed to preorder a new iPhone minutes after, will get their devices delivered to their doorsteps today. Additionally, you can head over to your nearest Apple Retail Store and buy a new phone there too. But it is quite possible you'll be faced with long lines and diminished supplies.

Apple allowed customers to reserve iPhones by visiting their website and picking a store to pick them up from. But availability is now very limited at most stores and Apple even stopped allowing reservations last time I checked.

You could also try visiting your network carrier's store or one of the big box retailers like Best Buy to purchase a shiny new iPhone starting today. But even in those places, supplies will most likely be limited.

The new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus will be available in a new color this time - Rose Gold. According to a few preorder estimates, the rose gold color was either the hottest selling option among the four or was manufactured in lesser quantities as supplies ran out within the first few hours. Current ship times are between 3-4 weeks for most rose gold configurations.

Other models have shipped times slipped to the first week of October delivery.

And for the first time, Apple will sell unlocked, contract-free versions of the iPhone at launch. The option is available when trying to purchase the device from the Apple Store app only. On the web version of the Apple Store, no contract-free option is available.

But, if choosing to purchase a carrier version you will have the option to pay in full without committing to a contract up front. And it seems like those devices will be unlocked too - meaning, you can insert any GSM sim card and use the iPhone, especially on compatible networks overseas.

The new iPhones boast better cameras, the new 3D Touch multi-touch feature, a faster processor while maintaining the same battery life as its predecessors. But technical specifications suggest the new phones will be slightly heavier (10%) and have smaller capacity batteries.

With iOS 9, there are a ton of new software features available too. Some of the best enhancements in my opinion include improvements to Siri and subtle improvements to CarPlay.

Have you preordered a new iPhone?
