Apple Confirms Most Rumors At iPhone 6s Event, Makes No Mention Of CarPlay

Apple just wrapped up its keynote address at their Fall event in San Francisco today. Most rumored products were confirmed with new iPhones, Apple TV and an iPad Pro being announced. Here's a summary on how the keynote unfolded.

1. Apple Watch: A couple of new watch colors were announced along with a few new colored bands. Also, WatchOS 2 will debut later this year.

2. iPad Pro: 12.9" iPad Pro loaded with the latest hardware including Apple's new A9X processor and a large 2732x2048 display. Apple also announced a companion keyboard and Apple Pencil for the iPad Pro. The device will be priced starting at $799 and will be available some time in November.

Apple also announced a new iPad Mini 4 which has the same innards as the current iPad Air 2.

3. Apple TV: A brand new Apple TV device was announced which looks thicker than the current version. It also features a new remote with touch controls and a Siri trigger. Apple also announced the new tvOS with a new interface and an App Store. You will now be able to install apps and play games on the new Apple TV. The device will be available in time for the holidays and will be priced starting at $149.

4. iPhone 6s and 6s Plus: As expected, two new iPhones were announced in the same sizes as the current iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The 6s and 6s Plus has new hardware all around starting with a new A9 processor to a brand new 12 megapixel camera with improved image capture capabilities, 4K video recording, and Live Photos which captures moments just before and after your picture.

The new iPhones will feature the next generation of multi-touch called 3D Touch (similar to Force Touch on the current MacBooks). A new color has been added called rose gold which joins the current space gray, silver and gold models.

The new iPhones will be priced starting at $199 and $299 respectively (with 2-year contracts). Apple also announced its new iPhone Upgrade program which will allow you to upgrade your iPhone every year while staying in a contract on most major providers at a monthly cost starting at $32 a month.

Preorders for the new iPhones begin September 12 and the devices will go on sale on September 25.

Wireless CarPlay?

iOS 9 will be available soon although no mention on CarPlay was made. I was hoping for some details on wireless CarPlay but to be honest, Apple's keynote this time was very long. It was packed with information as they announced upgrades to almost every device (except any of the Macs). The keynote lasted well over 2 hours.

We will have to wait and see how wireless CarPlay plays out when iOS 9 releases later this month.
