As rumor had it, Apple has officially sent out invites for their upcoming iPhone event which will be held on September 9 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. This year's event won't be held at the usual Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco though.

Pioneer NEX Owners May Have To Wait Until Apple iPhone Event For CarPlay [Opinion]


Today is the first day of the last month of summer and with two months of the season gone, Pioneer's CarPlay firmware update for its NEX receivers is no where in sight.

The circus of anticipation began with the big announcement that Pioneer would be one of two aftermarket companies (Alpine Electronics the other) to offer CarPlay. They held press events showing off Apple's latest technology on their NEX receivers. From the demos, it looked like CarPlay was ready for primetime. So much so that Pioneer themselves promised an 'early summer' release.

Early summer came and went. And so has 'mid-summer.' As we enter 'late summer' it looks inevitable that the updates will arrive anytime within the next 30 days or so. But don't be so sure.

GPS Issue Reported In A Few Pioneer NEX Head Units


Recently, a few people have reported a GPS positioning issue with Pioneer NEX head units. We found a couple of posts on AVIC411 Forums complaining of the problem and what you may have to do if your NEX head unit encounters the issue.

Affected head units get stuck trying to find a GPS signal and will display the following error message...

Positioning is not possible due to the hardware. Please contact your dealer or Pioneer service center.

Apple Maps Is Beating Google Maps In The United Kingdom [Report]


At least one carrier in the United Kingdom just reported how Apple Maps has taken over Google Maps as a mapping option among its customers. EE, which also owns Orange and T-Mobile in the U.K., says the 4G and 3G usage data of its customers is beginning to show the trend.

Pioneer's AppRadioLIVE App Update Fixes Notification Bug


AppRadioLIVE is Pioneer's latest AppRadio compatible app (iOS only) that puts your connected lifestyle in your dashboard. Things like local event information, maps, traffic, and music are included in the app.

One feature which was also included was a notifications sidebar which put all your notifications in one place, allowing you to view them without leaving the app. Unfortunately the feature didn't quite work as advertised. Not anymore though.

EC Touch Now Compatible With AppMenu For Toyota


For those of you who own a smartphone compatible Toyota, there is an app made by Pioneer Electronics that is a lot like the AppRadio app. It's called AppMenu and it brings together functions like Calendar, Photos and third-party applications to your car's dashboard.

Driverless Cars To Hit UK Roads By January 2015


Three states in the United States have passed laws allowing driverless cars to be tested on public roads. These are California, Nevada and Florida. The United Kingdom plans on following suit by making provisions for autonomous cars to be tested on public roads by as early as six months from now.
