Things Apple Didn't Mention At Today's iPhone Event

Today's Apple iPhone event in Cupertino lasted a little over an hour (excluding the Elvis Costello performance) and was full of information we've been waiting for. Two new iPhones were announced with many new technologies in them.

There were a few details Apple didn't talk about though. Here are a few thoughts and details…

1. The C in iPhone 5C doesn't stand for Cheap. Even though the phone costs $100 cheaper than the iPhone 5S when you get it with a two-year contract in the United States, the phone will by no means be cheap when buying without a contract. The price for an unlocked, contract-free 16GB iPhone 5C will be $549 in the U.S., £469 in the United Kingdom and €599 in Europe.

2. The iPhone 5C can be preordered on September 13 in the U.S. but there are no preorders for the iPhone 5S. You will have to show up at an Apple Retail Store at 8 a.m. on September 20 to get your hands on an iPhone 5S. Expect stock to run out pretty quickly and long camped out lines of course.

3. The new iPhones will be available through AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile. So you can buy one through your respective carrier too. This may be a better option if you're trying to avoid the long lines at Apple Retail Store. Big Box retailers like Best Buy and Walmart may also get the new iPhones on September 20.

4. There weren't too many details of iOS 7 working on the iPad or iPad Mini even though Apple mentioned the operating system being compatible with those devices. Even back during WWDC 2013 Apple didn't mention anything about the iPad and iOS 7. Maybe the iPad version isn't ready for primetime yet but will be by September 18.

5. Details about iOS 7 were far and few between. Apple did talk about 10 new features at WWDC 2013 though. I was hoping to get a few more details about "iOS in the Car".

Today's event was strictly an iPhone/iOS 7 event. Some rumors had suggested a few Mac and iPad upgrades but those didn't come. Apple may well hold another event next month to showcase its holiday lineup of products. We may see an iWatch or a Retina iPad Mini soon.
