Pioneer: "Users Should Contact Authorized Samsung Dealers Regarding Smartphone Adapters"

Pioneer has AppRadio compatibility charts posted on its website. Among the compatible phones are a few Samsung devices that have a special note about them. They need an additional Samsung adapter to connect to an AppRadio mode enabled head unit.

There has been a lot of confusion regarding this matter across various tech forums. In some instances, different phones require a different Samsung adapter to correctly connect to an AppRadio. The phones in question are the following…

Samsung Galaxy Note II
Samsung Galaxy S3
Samsung Galaxy S4

According to what we have learned from user comments so far, the adapter EPL-3FHUBEGSTA is required for the Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S3 (pictured below).

EPL-3FHUBEGSTA for Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note II

The Galaxy S4 on the other hand requires the EPL-FU10BEBSTD adapter (pictured below).

EPL-FU10BEBSTD for Galaxy S4

The special note on Pioneer's website, regarding all the three phones mentioned above, at the bottom of the compatibility list states the following…

Samsung adapter EPL-FU10BEBSTD is required (sold separately), in addition to the Pioneer CD-AH200C Android interface cable kit (sold separately). Visit www.samsung.com, an authorized dealer, or call 800-757-0280 for more information.

It should be noted that even though Pioneer suggests using the EPL-FU10BEBSTD adapter for the Galaxy S3 or Galaxy Note II users should use the EPL-3FHUBEGSTA adapter instead. We have confirmed this adapter to work without issues with the AppRadio 2, AppRadio 3 or any other AppRadio Mode enabled head unit.

According to Pioneer, users using any Samsung Galaxy phone can contact Samsung at the toll free number mentioned above if they want additional information about their phone and which adapter to use.

You can purchase any one of the Samsung adapters for great prices on Amazon. Links are below…

  1. So with the Galaxy S3 I am currently using the CD-AH200C with the EPL-FU10BEBSTD as suggested by Pioneer. This works fine. According to what you are saying, could I have used the EPL-3FHUBEGSTA adapter instead without the CD-AH200C? This would also assume that you would need to connect a regular USB to micro USB cable (another words a standard charging cable) from the pioneer head (USB port on back of radio) to the EPL-3FHUBEGSTA. Is this correct?

  2. I have my Galaxy S3 connected with the 3FHUBEGSTA along with a micro usb cable from the 12V lighter in the car for charging. You really don't need the CD-AH200C kit if you can find cheaper USB cables.

    1. I had the same issue with my Note II using the appradio 3 and the Pioneer CD-AH200C into the 5 pin to 11 pin adapter EPL-FU10BEBSTD phone would display as it is charging but would not. after numerous calls to pioneer/auto installer/samsung I was advised to switch out the Pioneer CD-AH200C and use the EPL-3FHUBEGSTA I also purchased a custom made 11pin to 11 pin male to female cable so I could keep the EPL-3FHUBEGSTA hidden behind the head unit. the custom cable is available from http://www.usbfirewire.com/Parts/rr-mhl-ext-xxg.html this is installed and confirmed working and charging. which makes me one happy appradio user.

    2. I've connected my S4 3 different ways. The USB port doesn't seem to be necessary and there doesn't seem to be anything magical about the Pioneer cables. (best to worst)

1.) All Share dongle (AppRadio USB powers the All Share...streaming stutters rarely but does at times)
2.) Standard Samsung S4 MHL-HDMI adapter (no AppRadio USB connection...using car charger)
3.) CD-AH200\EPL-FU10BEBSTD (works but couldn't charge phone even with car charger...also most expensive)

    3. with the allshare dongle are you using the appradio app or ARLiberator?

  4. So your saying even after I buy the EPL-3FHUBEGSTA to use with my App radio 2 and Note2 this thing will not charge my Phone? and what's the difference between the EPL-3FHUBEGSTA and the EPL-FU10BEBSTD, Ive been going in limbo between trying to root my note or just let it be and just use the CD-AH200C/ I feel now since I bought the app radio its a hassle to do it either way.

  5. can someone enlighten me with my problem please as i bought http://www.clasohlson.com/uk/Samsung-11-PIN-HDTV-Adaptor/38-5710 and connected it up to my galaxy s4 with it being an 11pin mhl thing is when i had my s4 connected it said the phone was charging but was losing charge so i took it back and bought http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1080P-MHL-Micro-USB-to-HDMI-HDTV-ADAPTER-CABLE-LEAD-FOR-SAMSUNG-GALAXY-S4-I9500-/141034620923?pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhoneAccesories_MobilePhoneDataCables_JN&hash=item20d65187fb

instead as i thought it was a good idea as theres no bulky box that requires power etc but with this lead im still having the same problem with the phone saying its charging but the charge still continues to drop.

  8. It seems they say on this link below, that this adapter http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ET-H10FAUWESTA works just fine, without any other kit related cables:
