There is another update available today, version 4.7.3. It fixes a "critical defect for people with a large trip database". You can download the latest version from the App Store today.

For those of you using a jailbroken iPhone 4/4S this is great news. Controlling apps that aren't AppRadio compatible using the AppRadio's touch interface sounds like a remote possibility. But developer Mike DeCaro has done tremendous work in that regard with his jailbreak tweak, AppRadio Extensions. The tweak is getting upgraded to version 2.0 soon but a new teaser video and a beta download has been made available at Avic411. Here's the video and more details.

The AppRadio app was recently updated to version 1.7.0 by Pioneer. This update had one major issue of displaying blank icons for the compatible apps. Seems like Pioneer has fixed that bug in today's app update. Today's version 1.7.1 includes the following.

Pioneer's latest firmware for its first generation AppRadio (SPH-DA01) version 2.50 was made available on their website about three weeks ago. But I received a subscriber email just today announcing the firmware update. If you didn't know about the release already this email may be helpful to you. Better late than never I guess.

How would you like a fancy looking steering wheel remote control in your car? How about one made by Apple themselves? Well, Apple was granted a patent by the US Patent and Trademark Office today for what looks like a piece of hardware taken from the iPod Classic. Check out this patent diagram from Patently Apple below.

The latest AppRadio app update seems to have done more harm than good to the AppRadio (or AppRadio 2) experience. There are a lot of issues that have been reported across the web. Most have been fixed by deleting the app from the iPhone and reinstalling it. But the major issues of automatic launch and pop up messages haven't been fixed. Made me wonder, do we really need an AppRadio app?

There are plenty of issues that plague both the AppRadio and AppRadio 2 at the moment. Although some have been fixed by software updates, others have been worsened or new ones have cropped up. Yesterday I encountered something I haven't seen before while using my AppRadio 2. I have seen this error while using my iPhone with other devices but this is the first time I've seen it with AppRadio/AppRadio 2.

I was playing around with my AppRadio 2 earlier today and I stumbled upon a neat little trick. Many of us have encountered an unresponsive home button while using the device. Most of the time this happens while switching apps or trying to exit from a blank screen. Well, this trick I found works only for AppRadio 2 and with an iPhone. Here's what you do.

It is AppRadio compatible and works well with the in-dash receiver. The iOS app has been updated to version 3.0.0 today with quite a few new features and improvements. The app uses your car's OBD-II port to pull data.

The trip logging and voice navigation app, Extra Mile, has been updated to version 4.7. The app is already the most frequently used app for me. I like the simplistic navigation and trip logs. The interface is pretty too. The new update has improved functionality of the app. Here are more details.

About three months ago it was reported that a possible jailbroken AppRadio firmware was in the making. It was being called "AppRadio+" or "AppRadio More". The firmware was made in French and Russian versions at first. An English version was said to be in the making. Now there is a new buzz about "HackRadio". So what is it all about?
