AppRadio (SPH-DA01/02) firmware update is now available for download from Pioneer's website. The links were posted yesterday but didn't work until earlier today. To download the firmware files you have to visit Pioneer's AppRadio SPH-DA01 page which isn't easy to find.

AppRadio (SPH-DA01/02) users will need two microSD cards to update their firmware to version 2.50 when it becomes available. According to Pioneer's website, there are two files that need to be run on the device. I'm guessing you could use just one microSD and go back and forth loading up the files on it but Pioneer recommends using two.

Looks like the links for the anticipated AppRadio firmware update, version 2.50, have just been posted on Pioneer's website. However, the links are not active yet. Finding them isn't easy either. You have to use the custom link below to reach the firmware page.

|No more firmware updates for first-generation AppRadio?|
Recently, one of our twitter followers, @kytozen, pointed out that Pioneer USA has removed the "Firmware" tab from it's AppRadio page. With AppRadio 2 being launched recently does this mean Pioneer is abandoning future firmware upgrades for the first-generation device?

One of our readers, 'Sleepwitfishes', has made a video demonstrating the frustrating problems with AppRadio 2. After watching the video I can confirm that these issues exist with my unit too so it isn't a one-off incidence. Watch the video below and see for yourselves. Pioneer obviously needs to address these shortcomings. Makes you wonder if the second-generation device was a step backwards.

I had made the following video while booting up my Pioneer AppRadio 2 for the first time after install. Check it out. The interface is definitely snappier than the first generation AppRadio but similar warning screens plague both Pioneer devices. More AppRadio 2 videos to come.

MotionX GPS Drive was one of the first navigation apps to be AppRadio compatible. The app is 99 cents and worked well. Since Extra Mile became AppRadio compatible, I haven't used MotionX much at all. I tried using it yesterday with my new AppRadio 2 and this is what I ran in to.

That above, is the on-screen keyboard on the first-generation AppRadio. It looks primitive and monochromatic. With AppRadio 2, Pioneer has revamped the on-screen keyboard. iPhone/iPod users will get to the see the one below instead of the one above.

By AppRadioWorld at 10:21 PM
Just got an email (screenshot above) from Pioneer stating that AppRadio 2 is now shipping to most major retailers in the US. The email also reconfirms that the Android Connection Kit will be sold separately and is not included with AppRadio 2. None of the retailers I checked have the AppRadio 2 listed on their websites. I'll make a quick trip to my local Best Buy and report back.

|CarMediaPlayer from Pioneer on the AppRadio|
AppRadio users have been subject to a very hard-to-use iPod app interface since launch. But with the recent release of the iOS app, CarMediaPlayer, Pioneer seems to have addressed the issue. For those of you who don't know, CarMediaPlayer is a separate app from Pioneer that is an alternative to the stock iPod app on the AppRadio. The main difference being the ability to use swipe to scroll which has been missing all this while. But CarMediaPlayer isn't perfect. Here is one issue that bugs the app.
