AppRadio (SPH-DA01/02) users will need two microSD cards to update their firmware to version 2.50 when it becomes available. According to Pioneer's website, there are two files that need to be run on the device. I'm guessing you could use just one microSD and go back and forth loading up the files on it but Pioneer recommends using two.

CONFIRMED: AppRadio 2 Firmware Updates Will Be Done Through USB

You will need a USB pen-drive to update AppRadio 2 in the future
According to reliable sources, the USB port on Pioneer AppRadio 2's iPhone cable will be used to load firmware updates as they become available in the future. AppRadio 2 lacks a micro-SD card slot like the one seen on the first generation AppRadio which caused doubts about how firmware upgrades will take place. But, I can now confirm the use of the USB port to get the updates done.

Here's The Initial Boot Up Of AppRadio 2 [Video]

AppRadio 2's Dimmer Feature Is Awesome [Video]

The 'Settings' menu on AppRadio 2 is quite extensive
AppRadio 2's 'Settings' menu is quite different from the first generation AppRadio. There are a lot more things that can be tweaked along with quite a few new feature enhancements. For example, I like to have the screen brightness turned up because the glare during the daytime can make viewing the screen a little difficult. But what about readjusting the brightness for night time? There is a tweak for that.

Top 3 AppRadio Features Missing In AppRadio 2

AppRadio 2 has cut a few features that are present in AppRadio
Pioneer Electronics' AppRadio 2 has been out for a couple of days now and I've been playing around with it ever since. In my initial review I've mentioned a few of the issues that exist with the second generation device and how it is far from perfect. And now, I've realized how it may not even be as 'good' as its first generation sibling. Here are the 3 big things missing or different in AppRadio 2 that are native to the original AppRadio.

It Will Cost You $25 To Use MotionX GPS Drive With AppRadio 2

MotionX GPS Drive was one of the first navigation apps to be AppRadio compatible. The app is 99 cents  and worked well. Since Extra Mile became AppRadio compatible, I haven't used MotionX much at all. I tried using it yesterday with my new AppRadio 2 and this is what I ran in to.

Say Hello To The New AppRadio 2 On-Screen Keyboard

The primitive looking on-screen keyboard on AppRadio
Hey Pioneer, the 90s called, they want their on-screen keyboard back!

That above, is the on-screen keyboard on the first-generation AppRadio. It looks primitive and monochromatic. With AppRadio 2, Pioneer has revamped the on-screen keyboard. iPhone/iPod users will get to the see the one below instead of the one above.

A Glimpse At The New iPod Interface On AppRadio 2

This old iPod interface is out
Although I haven't checked it out first-hand, the AppRadio 2 seems to have a new iPod interface. I'm guessing there is swipe to scroll enabled. Something that has been missing. Here's what's new.

AppRadio 2 Unboxing [Pictures]

AppRadio 2 is now available for purchase
The wait is over! This year's Easter egg has come a couple of days early. AppRadio 2, Pioneer's second generation installment of the AppRadio family, is now available for shipping in the United States. I stopped by Best Buy earlier and purchased one. The sales person told me they had just come in a few hours ago. They got a few in stock so supplies won't last too long. The price? $499 (not $599 as suggested on Pioneer's website earlier). Check out the unboxing pictures after the page break.

BREAKING: Pioneer Is Now Shipping AppRadio 2 In The US

Just got an email (screenshot above) from Pioneer stating that AppRadio 2 is now shipping to most major retailers in the US. The email also reconfirms that the Android Connection Kit will be sold separately and is not included with AppRadio 2. None of the retailers I checked have the AppRadio 2 listed on their websites. I'll make a quick trip to my local Best Buy and report back.

BREAKING: AppRadio 2 Android Connection Kit Delayed

The Android Connection Kit won't be available for purchase immediately
A shipping delay will make the Android Connection Kit (CD-AH200C) unavailable for purchase with AppRadio 2. Pioneer has informed everyone about this in a recent email. So for now, if you buy AppRadio 2, you will have to make do with the iPhone/iPod connection. No availability date or list of compatible Android apps is available from Pioneer yet.

What's Going On With Waze And AppRadio?

Is Pioneer dropping AppRadio compatibility for Waze?
One of our readers, Daniel, brought to our notice recently that the navigation app, Waze, has been removed from the list of AppRadio 2 Android apps on Pioneer's website. A hover over to the website confirms that. The app was listed there before as being compatible with the car stereo through Android. But for some reason now it's not there anymore. So what's going on?

CarMediaPlayer Stuttering Issue Is Quite Annoying [Video]

CarMediaPlayer from Pioneer on the AppRadio
AppRadio users have been subject to a very hard-to-use iPod app interface since launch. But with the recent release of the iOS app, CarMediaPlayer, Pioneer seems to have addressed the issue. For those of you who don't know, CarMediaPlayer is a separate app from Pioneer that is an alternative to the stock iPod app on the AppRadio. The main difference being the ability to use swipe to scroll which has been missing all this while. But CarMediaPlayer isn't perfect. Here is one issue that bugs the app.
