Mike DeCaro's AppRadio Extensions is a jailbreak tweak available for the iPhone 4/4S. It adds a whole spectrum of additional functionality to the AppRadio and AppRadio 2. The latest is version 2.0 which is available through the Cydia Store. It allows full touch functionality to almost any app on the iPhone. Watch this YouTube video below from "DavePioneer" for a full demonstration.
Note: AppRadio Extensions is a jailbreak tweak only and may not be compatible with all iPhones or iOS 6.

Pioneer Electronics has posted compatibility charts on its website showing which features will and will not work on its car audio systems when using an iPhone 5 or an iPhone running iOS 6. Take a look at the self-explanatory charts below. Seems like Pioneer will have to find a workaround to make the iPhone 5 fully compatible with AppRadio.

Pioneer's own AppRadio app has been updated to version 1.8.1 (iOS). This update includes one feature that was perhaps missed the most (apart from the glitch fixes). The app now allows you to use your own custom background on the AppRadio. Previously this couldn't be done directly from the device.

Pioneer Electronics has sent out emails confirming compatibility of their AppRadio line of products with Apple's latest iOS 6. All head units with Advanced App Mode will work with iOS 6 running on the iPhone 4S and 4. However, there is still no word on whether the new iPhone 5 which ships tomorrow will work with AppRadio through the 30-pin to Lightning adapter.

This recently updated video by YouTube user 'MetalManthey' shows the Pioneer AppRadio 2 and Samsung Galaxy S III working together. From the video below you can see that the Advanced App Mode mirrors the phone's display onto the AppRadio 2. Mirroring only happens when using an Android device in Advanced App Mode. iOS users are used to seeing a 'Connected to AppRadio' screen on their iDevices. Check out the video below.

Easy Car Touch or EC Touch is a free app developed by Motus Lab out of Italy which is AppRadio compatible and available in the US App Store. The app brings together the most commonly used features and apps while driving to one easy-to-use interface. Here are a couple of videos showcasing the app and more details.
I played around with EC Touch for a while this morning and I can confirm that it works nicely. There were a couple of issues I ran into which I've mentioned later on.

INRIX Traffic was updated to version 4.1 about two weeks ago. This AppRadio compatible app works great with AppRadio now. I've been using it on and off. I especially like the ETA info that self-updates based on traffic info. The free version of the app only allows you to save one home and one work location. For additional locations you have to upgrade to the premium version.
As promised here are a few screenshots of the app interface on AppRadio 2.

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) Line Shows 2012 was held in New York City on June 27 and 28 this year. Pioneer Electronics was present at the event and there is some interesting information coming out from there regarding the AppRadio line of products. The AppRadio platform has really moved slowly towards improvement but it seems like things could be fast tracked in the coming few months.

Maybe one of our readers in France can tell us more about this story. I came across a video on YouTube from "MrBuzz118" which showcases iCoyote, an iOS app for the iPhone. The app is AppRadio compatible (both SPH-DA01 and SPH-DA100) and from the looks of it seems pretty useful. It is not available in the United States or Canada but is meant for Europe only. My knowledge of French is limited but here's the video and what I think this app might be capable of doing.

It seems like Extra Mile keeps getting updated every week. This week's update version 4.7.4 adds a few improvements to the app and fixes some bugs. According to the app's description the latest version has the following improvements:

If you have a piece of hardware that uses an HDMI connection to display to an external monitor, chances are it will work with AppRadio 2. I can think of a handful of devices that can be used this way in the car ranging from media players to gaming consoles to laptops. The only issue, however, would be to get a power source to power up some of these devices. Well, one YouTube user (n0name321) recently connected his Microsoft XBox 360 to his AppRadio 2 to demonstrate how the AppRadio 2 can be used as a display monitor. Check it out.

I've been getting quite a few questions about how to find out the exact model number of the AppRadio. Pioneer's recent firmware updates for the first generation AppRadio have caused a little confusion since two separate updates for SPH-DA01 and SPH-DA02 were released. So if you have a first generation AppRadio you can find your model number right on your device. It's probably easy to miss though.

For those of you using a jailbroken iPhone 4/4S this is great news. Controlling apps that aren't AppRadio compatible using the AppRadio's touch interface sounds like a remote possibility. But developer Mike DeCaro has done tremendous work in that regard with his jailbreak tweak, AppRadio Extensions. The tweak is getting upgraded to version 2.0 soon but a new teaser video and a beta download has been made available at Avic411. Here's the video and more details.

The latest AppRadio app update seems to have done more harm than good to the AppRadio (or AppRadio 2) experience. There are a lot of issues that have been reported across the web. Most have been fixed by deleting the app from the iPhone and reinstalling it. But the major issues of automatic launch and pop up messages haven't been fixed. Made me wonder, do we really need an AppRadio app?
By AppRadioWorld at 11:41 AM
There are plenty of issues that plague both the AppRadio and AppRadio 2 at the moment. Although some have been fixed by software updates, others have been worsened or new ones have cropped up. Yesterday I encountered something I haven't seen before while using my AppRadio 2. I have seen this error while using my iPhone with other devices but this is the first time I've seen it with AppRadio/AppRadio 2.

I was playing around with my AppRadio 2 earlier today and I stumbled upon a neat little trick. Many of us have encountered an unresponsive home button while using the device.
